WHITE SANDS NATIONAL PARK

(approximately 1.5 hours from the house) – perfect place to spend your day

Like No Place Else on Earth ... Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico.

Sledding:
The powdery, white gypsum dunes not only look like snow, they behave like it as well. Sledding down the slip face of dunes is a popular, exhilarating activity at White Sands National Park.

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO

Roswell is renowned as the site of an alleged 1947 UFO crash. The International UFO Museum and Research Center has display panels and a library. Spring River Park and Zoo is home to native animals and an antique carousel. The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art shows work from the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. The Roswell Museum & Art Center focuses on southwestern art.

CEDAR CREEK TRAIL

(approximately 1.5 hours from the house) – perfect place to spend an entire day

With a picnic shelter and three group campsites, the recreation area is ideal for an outing in Lincoln National Forest.

Hiking and biking are among the most popular activities here, with options like the T90 Fitness Trail and the T121 and T121A biking trails. The fitness trail extends for 1.3 miles and includes exercise stations where visitors can do pull-ups and similar workouts.

WHITE OAKS GHOST TOWN

I love ghost towns. Nothing is more fascinating than exploring an old, abandoned frontier town and imagining how things used to be. Today, visitors may explore several historic buildings, the Cedarvale cemetery, and the historic No Scum Allowed Saloon, recently named one of American Cowboy Magazine's "Best Cowboy Bars in the West."

THE FORT STANTON MUSEUM

(approximately 20 minutes from the house)

In 1855, Fort Stanton was built as a military garrison, and served as such for over 40 years. Later, it became a hospital for tuberculosis patients, a CCC camp during the Great Depression, and a German Internment Camp during the war.
